Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween everyone!

I have been busy preparing for Fright Night for the children of our village. It is going to be on this Saturday, to give parents time to get their children ready for the event, instead of the 31st of October. My house will be a Safe House again, so nothing really scary here. Some of our neighbours will be setting up their houses as Scare Houses for the teenagers.

My last order of bags of sweets for Fright Night has just arrived. I think that there will be more than enough to go around. I chose Halloween-themed sweets: marshmallow ghosts and eyeballs, skull lollipops, sour spiders, chewy tarantulas, sour fizzy worms, little bags of bones and pumpkin shaped sweets and many more.

Otto decided to help me with Halloween preparations. He is now fast asleep in the basket that I want to put the sweets in. I don't have the heart to move him. His own basket is much more comfortable with a sheepskin rug in, or so I thought!

Mum said that she isn't going to try to count how many children come trick-or-treating this year. Over 160 children came to our house last year! Sometimes large groups at a time.

Here's hoping that the weather will clear up in time for Fright Night. It has been terribly windy and stormy this past week, but we have had no rain so far today. I may just have to decorate the front door and then spread my plastic spiders and bats around the doorstep and leave the paper ghosts, pumpkins and bats for next year. We shall see. Fingers crossed.

I hope that you have a fun time if you are doing anything for Halloween.

Enjoy the rest of your week.

Lots of hugs, Rose xxx

  2. Oh my goodness, Otto is adorable! he just wanted to be close to you while you were working on organizing all the candy-very sweet of you, not to move him. 160 kids is incredible! we have never had trick-or-treating here, the kids all go into town - that’s OK-there’s one street that’s supposed to give out giant candy bars so I’m sure they’re all thrilled! I’m sure you’re preparing now. You’re so many hours ahead of us. I hope the weather is perfect! so nice of you to offer a safe house for the Littles. That’s a terrific idea-have fun!

    1. Hi Mary, Otto is a great companion, he always wants to be in the middle of anything that I am doing. He's even sitting on my keyboard while I am trying to type at the moment! Halloween was a lot of fun. The weather was perfect. Lots of sunshine, but not too hot and no wind. My paper decorations survived another year. Loads of children arrived all dressed up in Halloween costumes again. We didn't count how many came this year. The children arrived in crowds with their parents. They were all very well-behaved and polite. The parents occasionally prompting them to say thank you. We had quite a few sweets left over this year, so in the last 20 minutes of trick-or-treating we let the children take a handful of them. That went down extremely well with them lol. Wow, the street giving out giant candy bars must be very popular. I can just imagine how excited the children would be to get them! I Hope that you have a lovely weekend. Hugs, Rose xxx

  3. I’m sorry -it’s already Sunday afternoon where you are! My days seem mixed up- tonight we’ll turn the clocks backward for daylight savings time and it seems to take several days to adjust to that. But at least we get an extra hour of sleep! I hope your Halloween was wonderful.

    1. Hi Mary, enjoy your extra hour of sleep. Our daylight savings went forward by an hour a few weeks ago, so one hour less sleep for me in the morning. I still haven't adjusted to it, but I like that the evenings are lighter. Halloween was great. I don't know who enjoyed it the most, the children, my parents or me! Hugs Rose xxx
